Talk radio hosts and some Romney supporters have started to spread a myth that McCain as the Republican nominee would damage the party. That conservatives will not vote for McCain and that he would be soundly defeated by the Democratic nominee.
But the polling shows that the exact opposite is true. In the Real Clear Politics “poll of polls” that averages all recent national polling, Romney as the nominee would be a disaster for the GOP.
McCain 46.6%
Clinton 44.9%
McCain 44.4%
Obama 43.3%
Clinton 51.0%
Romney 38.3%
Obama 51.2%
Romney 34.0%
Remember these numbers the next time Ann Coulter or Rush Limbaugh mouth off about how unelectable McCain really is. They must be using some sort of new math, I guess.

Maybe, but since I love America…I could never support a man who can’t decide whether he is a socialist or a fascist.
If we can’t have the only real conservative in the race - Ron Paul - then maybe the candidate who compliments Ronald Reagan and represents “change” would be the way to go.

we will sacrifice the conservative movement in the fear that we must “Keep Hillary out at all costs”. Reagan, Friedman, and many conservatives that went before us will roll in their graves at our loss of identity. Lack of vision causes us to perish, or accept a John McCain. How weak is our message then if we cannot articulate it and feel like we will win? Once McCain has the nomination he will leave conservativs siting by the road sucking eggs. He will need us no more.

I wouldn’t make too much of those polls. McCain is much better known than Romney is and for that reason will do better in any polling at this point. (This message shouldn’t be taken as an endorsement of Romney.)
